Survival of the Dead

''The dead were coming back to life,'' Alan Van Sprang's soldier wearily intones at the start of George A. Romero's sixth zombie movie, Survival of the Dead. ''We should have been afraid of them, but we weren't.'' That sums up the problem with this Western-inspired film, which plays down the undead plot to concentrate on the feud between two island-dwelling, Irish-accented families. There are some memorable images, including the sight of a beautiful, horse-riding ''dead head.'' But for much of the movie, Van Sprang's zombie fatigue seems to be an echo of Romero's own.

Kim Kardashian is looking forward to becoming a mum.

The reality star has been feeling broody since sister Kourtney, 30, gave birth to son Mason in December.

'I love being part of a huge family and I want my kids to experience that, too.'

Kim plans to continue the Kardashian tradition of having all her daughters' names start with 'K'.

'My mum always wanted us all to start with the same letter and because she's a K, she called my sister a K and kept going,' she explains.

'I think I'll definitely have my girls as Ks and the boys as the same initial as my husband.'

Kim no doubt dreamt of being mum to Cyrus, Curt, Cruz and Cory Ronaldo after smooching with Cristiano Ronaldo, 25, in Spain last month - but now the Real Madrid star's moved on to a Russian model.

Amanda Holden says fans love fellow Britain’s Got Talent judge

The actress is amazed at how popular her fellow Britain's Got Talent judge is with the public.

'I mean, he's like the Pope when he walks into the audience,' Amanda, 39, tells Now.

'Everyone kisses him.'

But Amanda insists Simon, 50, hasn't let fame go to his head.

'He cannot stand rudeness, he cannot stand people with terrible egos, he cannot stand spoilt people in this business - and it's really refreshing,' she says.

'He really is just one of the most genuine, down-to-earth people that I've ever met.

'He's obviously the biggest star I know - and I've met people with a lot less who've got much bigger egos in comparison to him.

Beetle Queen Conquers Tokyo

The Japanese have a national obsession with insects: Kids keep beetles as pets, and adults gather in reverent groups to celebrate cicadas and such. Summoning her own fondness for this hobby, filmmaker Jessica Oreck has assembled Beetle Queen Conquers Tokyo, a delightfully weird, if occasionally too arty, documentary as darting in its structure as a dragonfly's flight. Between meditations on classical Japanese themes of simplicity and tininess, she cuts in groovy pop-Japanese images of punk guys with hair shaped like bugs' bellies, and a beetle salesman who bought a Ferrari with his profits.

In the meantime, Vivid Entertainment reports that pre-orders on Kendra Wilkinson's tape are the highest in the history of sex tapes, so the release of the video was pushed forward to satisfy her huge fan base.

So, the actress left the Beverly Hills courthouse yesterday wearing an alcohol-detecting device strapped to her ankle that will check her body's alcohol levels every 30 minutes by measuring her sweat. Another formal hearing was set for July 6 to determine if Lohan had violated her probation or not.

In the meantime, here's an upskirt photo of Lindsay Lohan's ass while in Cannes.

Micmacs

The distinctive Paris of Micmacs, a city at the crossroads of whimsy and melancholy in an era somewhere between Now and Then, will look familiar to the many fans of Amélie. Director and co-writer Jean-Pierre Jeunet is back doing what he likes best, which is moving eccentric characters around a board in a miniature game of fate and chance.

In Micmacs — the word means something like shenanigans — the wildly popular French comedian Dany Boon (The Valet) stars as Bazil, a lost soul adopted by a gang of junkyard dealers who assist their new friend in a quest with a darker edge: Bazil wants to punish a couple of coldhearted competing French arms merchants responsible for the land mine that killed his father when Bazil was a boy, as well as for the stray bullet lodged in Bazil's head, the souvenir of a drive-by shooting. The colorful misfits (among them a contortionist and an inventor of elaborate mechanical toys) in their Pee-wee's Playhouse of a commune are sometimes a tad too colorful in their circusy quirks. But working with expressive cinematographer Tetsuo Nagata (who also shot Splice, reviewed this week), Jeunet maintains a firm control of his dreamscape creation, drawing on influences as varied as Toy Story, Children of Paradise, and TV's Mission: Impossible. They're a motley band of outsiders, but they slow down the arms race — not bad for shenanigans.

Ameesha Patel slaps elderly driver

Ameesha Patel needs some serious anger management. On Saturday evening the actress was seen in a heated exchange of words with her driver in his early 50s outside her Juhu gym. On lookers reveal that the argument took a ghastly turn as Patel assaulted her elderly chaffeur.

A passerby who witnessed the ugly incident relates, "Ameesha's new car was parked outside the gym. When she emerged after her workout, she saw a tiny scratch on the side of her car, and flipped out.

She started hurling abuses at the driver and kept asking him for an explanation. When he couldn't come up with an answer, she slapped him hard across his cheek."

Temper tantrum
This isn't the first time the actress has lost her temper on her driver. He has been driving her since her Kaho Na Pyaar Hai (2000) days and is used to her temperamental behaviour, but he has never encountered violence before. A source close to the actress adds, "Ameesha has had problems with her driver for a long time.

Recently he almost banged the car and even took her to the wrong address. He has a slight eyesight problem and despite her telling him to wear glasses he refuses to do so.

He's been with her for a long time. Her growing frustration with him has got to her. She had a narrow escape in March when a jeep rammed into her car on the Mumbai Pune Expressway."

When contacted, Ameesha out rightly denied the story. She went on to claim that she hasn't taken her car to the gym in the last three years.

"This is utterly ridiculous. Nothing of this sort has happened. My house is walking distance from the gym and I just take my driver with me to hold my umbrella. You can come to my gym and ask around if anything to this effect happened. It's all lies and I will be very unhappy if this comes out."

Kanav's car trouble
In December last year Ameesha's boyfriend Kanav's yellow Ferrari got stolen from London. Kanav even had his personalised number plates. Despite the loss, Kanav planned to get another brand new Ferrari in the coming months.

I won't be using Twitter

Saif Ali Khan has said that he won't be using Twitter to talk to his fans.

The social networking site has proved popular with fellow Bollywood celebrities such as Priyanka Chopra and Karan Johar, but the Kurbaan actor said that he won't be joining them.

He told the Times of India: "I don't want to share my thoughts. I don’t know what I will say.

"And I personally feel that some distance should be maintained between the audiences and the actor. That’s my personal opinion."

Twitter has proved controversial, with some directors banning actors from revealing details of plots to their followers.

Earlier this year, Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor were told not to tweet from the set of their forthcoming film Anjaana Anjaani.

Moore 'obsessed with Kutcher cheating'

Demi Moore is reportedly "obsessed" with the possibility that younger husband Ashton Kutcher might cheat on her.

The 47-year-old Charlie's Angels actress, who married 32-year-old Kutcher in 2005, has allegedly become jealous of his kissing scenes with 28-year-old actress Natalie Portman in movie Friends With Benefits.

A friend of Moore told Star magazine: "Demi is obsessed with the idea that Ashton might stray."

Moore reportedly rushed to the set of the movie to watch the love scene between Kutcher and Portman and marched him to his trailer afterwards.

The couple are believed to be trying for a baby.

Holly Valance kiss was strange

Shane Jacobson has revealed that his on-screen kiss with Holly Valance was "strange".

The Australian actor, who is best known for playing plumber Kenny in the film of the same name, said that he got on really well with co-star Valance during the filming of Surviving Georgia.

Jacobson told the AAP: "During shooting, my partner was nine months pregnant and about to give birth to what now is our daughter, so larking about kissing Holly Valance was quite strange.

"It's not exactly the kind of thing you find romantically motivating, it's more just the kind of thing you need to do.

"Kenny would certainly be proud. I thought the film would be a comedy when they told me I was Holly's love interest.

"She's a lovely, beautiful person and clearly deserves a much better canvas than me... but she's incredibly grounded and I'm proud to call her a friend."

'Underbelly' star dating Aussie model

Wil Traval has started dating Teresa Livingstone, it has been reported.

The Underbelly actor, who plays policeman Joe Dooley in the Australian crime drama, sparked rumours that he is seeing model Livingstone after being spotted with her at an airport.

Livingstone's representative told The Daily Telegraph: "I don't want to comment on their relationship because from what I gather things are fairly new. They've returned to America. Teresa came out for a bit of a holiday and to spend some time with her family."

The couple, who are both currently based in LA, are believed to have visited Sydney and Queensland, where Livingstone's parents live.

Madsen's drinking sparks health concerns

Michael Madsen was reportedly treated at a London hospital after being found unconscious on the doorstep of a hotel in the capital.

The Reservoir Dogs star was in the UK earlier this month to make a low-budget horror film when he apparently went on a nine-day booze and pills bender.

According to The Sun, Madsen, 52, was placed on suicide watch at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. An insider said staff at the Penventon Park Hotel were shocked at the amount of alcohol Madsen consumed.

"He was mixing his drinks with pills, but no one knew what they were for. He angered some guests by urinating in the car park. When he was found slumped on the doorstep it was hardly a surprise," the insider said.

Madsen, who played Mr Blonde in the 1992 Quentin Tarantino movie, was last night said to have returned to the US.

Stagecoach

Marion Morrison had already changed his name by the time he stepped onto the set of Stagecoach, but this is the film where he truly became John Wayne. As the swaggering Ringo Kid, Wayne defined macho movie stardom for decades to come. After all, Ringo may be wanted by the law — and hell with a rifle — but he's also the only one who treats Claire Trevor's hooker (with a heart of gold, natch) with an ounce of chivalry as they travel through Apache country. Action-packed and jaw-droppingly epic (it was the first time director John Ford ever shot in Monument Valley), Stagecoach is the perfect Western to show to people who don't like Westerns. The two-disc Criterion set is jammed with juicy EXTRAS, including a 1968 interview with the crusty Ford and a chat with the always welcome Peter Bogdanovich.

I wish Fiona had a British accent

Cameron Diaz has claimed that she wishes she could have given her character Princess Fiona in Shrek a British accent.

The actress, who has voiced the ogress in all four instalments of the Shrek franchise, has said that she would have rid herself of her Californian accent had she known that the character's parents were being voiced by Julie Andrews and John Cleese.

The 37-year-old told About.com: "If I had known that Fiona's parents both had British accents when I first started, that they were being voiced by Julie Andrews and John Cleese, I might have because when I first started the movie, when I did my voice, I didn't know who was playing my parents.

"So it was one of those things where I was like, 'Wait a second! How come I sound like I am from California?'"

Shrek Forever After is currently playing in US cinemas and is released in the UK on July 2.

Kaif faces censor for lack of patriotism?

Katrina Kaif's latest film may face the board of censors after it was accused of showing disrespect for India's national anthem.

The trailer for Rajneeti features the stars of the political drama singing the song in a reportedly 'bored' manner.

According to New Kerala, many of its viewers felt that the actors could have presented the Gandhi family in a better light.

Rajneeti's controversial subject matter has attracted much media attention, with claims last week saying that the cast were being prevented from promoting the film in Delhi.

Fashion faux pas were great

Drew Barrymore has said that she now thinks the fashion mistakes she made as a child actress were "brilliant".

Barrymore, who appeared in Steven Speilberg's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in 1982, when she was 7, has insisted that although her fashion decisions at the time were odd, she doesn't regret them.

Speaking to InStyle, the 35-year-old said: "[My first fashion faux pas was] anything I wore on the red carpet in the E.T. era. What was I thinking? Velour and taffeta, together? Oh, no, no, no. Now I think it's brilliant."

Recalling the first record she ever bought, she said: "The one I really remember was the Go-Go's, Beauty And The Beat. That was, like, the first freak-out I had, where it changed my life. That was girl power."

Barrymore also said that she started paying rent when she was 14 and that her heart was first broken by her first boyfriend Jamie Walters.

Taylforth reveals new body confidence

Gillian Taylforth has revealed a newly refound body confidence is enabling her to shed her clothes on stage.

Taylforth agreed to replace Bernie Nolan in the touring production of Mum's The Word after the Irish singer was diagnosed with cancer.

Despite being "scared witless" of baring her breasts, Taylforth, 54, said she has realised life is too short for her to be hung up on her image. The former EastEnders star added that her break-up with Geoff Knights last May, after they spent more than 20 years together, has helped her to turn the corner.

She told The Mirror: "I used to suffer from low self-esteem and I was very critical about the way I looked, but being on my own has given me the opportunity to discover who I am again."

Taylforth said the "new chapter" has left her believing that her best years are yet to come.

"Life is too short to obsess about [image] and you never know what's round the corner. You only have to look at what has happened to Bernie to realise that. Now I have the ability to say, 'I'm happy in myself, I'm working - not many actresses my age are - and I've got two gorgeous children'."

Men are a mystery

Kim Cattrall has revealed that though she is dating again she doesn't understand men.

The Sex and the City actress also said that she thinks the first date is the most important time to get to know someone.

"I'm dating again, but I know nothing about men," she said. "They remain a mystery to me, other than that they are predictable. I think a man shows you on the first date who he is, so that's when you should be very aware.

"But I don't think that you can change anybody. They are who they are. I think that's the secret to a successful marriage, or a successful relationship, accepting the other person for who they are."

The 54-year-old also said that she feels Sex and the City continues to make a powerful feminist statement.

"We have encouraged a lot of women to change the way they feel about being single, about getting married, being alone," she said. "We've addressed issues they care about and encouraged them to come together.

"I think that we've helped define what it is to be successful, smart and also feminine."

ALICE IN WONDERLAND

On paper, Tim Burton would appear to be the ideal guy to adapt Lewis Carroll's trippy tale for the big screen. Sadly, he gets lost down his own rabbit hole of eye-candy quirk. Alice in Wonderland is a gorgeous mess. Even Johnny Depp, who
rarely disappoints, seems like he's frantically pulling out tricks and tics from his other (better) Burton collaborations:
a dose of Scissorhands, a dash of Wonka. Honestly, there's just too much of everything...except
EXTRAS. The standard DVD has three slight featurettes — the best shows off Depp's watercolor sketches of the Mad Hatter. The Blu-ray serves up profiles of each of the main characters and a deeper behind-the-scenes look at the production.

Paris Hilton insults Mallika Sherawat

Sexy Siren Malika Sherawat is in Cannes promoting her new movie Hisss directed by Jennifer Lynch. She is making a lot of news, either for being the best dressed or dancing with a snake on the red carpet, and is having a gala of a time, rubbing shoulders with the who's who of the entertainment industry.

So the latest on the Sherawat front (no pun intended) is that, the actress was attending charity event called “Cinema against AIDS”, a non- profit organization dedicated to AIDS research.

Apparently, Miss Sherawat was the only Indian actor present among the likes of Gerard Butler, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Rock star Mick Jagger and designers like Karl Lagerfeld and Roberto Cavalli.

So the tale goes like this, Mallika Sherawat paid a kings ransom to a photog to click her pictures, every time she rubbed shoulders with a famous name.

Most of them turned down Mallika's “generous offer” while, Fashion maverick Roberto Cavalli was the only one who extended the courtesy towards her by graciously paying her a compliment and kissing her hand.

Mallika, who looked ravishing in a Dolce and Gabbana gown, was not satisfied with just one photo opportunity, so she decided to move on to tabloids' favorite princess Paris Hilton, but the wild child was not in a mood to play nice, with the Indian version of herself.

Paris looked aloof when Malika introduced her self, and briskly told her that she isn't familiar with her and walked away. If that wasn't enough, to add insult to the injury, during the party, Paris kept looking right through Malika.

That's sad, they would have become BFF's, and after all, they both are the same side of a coin. They would have also provided the media with a lot of fodder!!

Katherine Heigl 'doesn't watch Grey's'

Katherine Heigl has said that she can no longer watch Grey's Anatomy.

In an interview on The David Letterman Show, the actress described the feeling as "bittersweet", and said that she stopped watching after she left the series last November.

"I really did like my job and I really loved the people I worked with," she said. "It was very sort of safe and comfortable... Now I'm a bit adrift.

"I felt like I was missing the party, it was weird... I actually get a little bit jealous about Alex sleeping with other women. I think that's really inappropriate."

Amanda Holden bares her bum

Amanda Holden shows her cheeky side in a photo shoot for this week's heat magazine.

The Britain's Got Talent judge insisted: "My husband is so obsessed with my bottom he had a plaster cast made of it- it was before I had a baby so I was kind of proud of it then.

"I had this big tall man come and he even had a spatula to get definition! It looks like a piece of art because they’ve sprayed it silver."

She added: "It’s in our bedroom away from prying eyes. If only it still looked like that… It’s a good inspiration for me to start running again."

Responding to accusations of lip enhancement surgery and botox, Amanda said: "It’s so annoying. I swore I would never get my lips done; it’s the first thing that everyone notices. And look! No Botox, nothing!

"I said I wasn’t going to get Botox done and I haven’t. I haven’t had it for 9 months. Basically I was so fed up of answering questions about it; I thought I’m not having it any more."

Amanda also revealed a secret about fellow BGT judge Simon Cowell.

She told heat: "Simon has monogrammed napkins in LA so you can wipe your hands on them. I always say I’m going to put them on eBay. And I know it’s been said but he has black toilet paper too, which means you can’t see when you’re finished! He’ll hate me saying that, he always says I talk about my bowels too much! "

Having asked Piers Morgan's finace Celia for a secret about him, Amanda revealed: "Piers’ secret is ‘he refuses to wear boxer shorts that haven’t been ironed’. Brilliant! "

I have wild kids

Rebecca Romijn has said that her 16-month-old twins Dolly and Charlie are already becoming adventurous.

In an interview with In Touch, the actress, who is married to Jerry O'Connell, revealed that Dolly is "wild", and that Charlie is following in her sister's footsteps.

“Dolly always likes to stand on the highest platform she can find. She’s a climber, and Charlie is starting to investigate climbing as well, so I’m praying for no broken bones any time soon," she said.

"It's mind-blowing watching them develop their personalities!”

Cautiously optimistic

A rep for Bret Michaels says he is "cautiously optimistic" about the rocker's chances of appearing on the Celebrity Apprentice finale on Sunday.

The 47-year-old, who was released from hospital this morning after suffering from a warning stroke, will only be allowed to attend the event if given the go ahead by his medical staff, reports Entertainment Weekly.

“As far as I know, Bret will be there unless his doctors tell him otherwise,” the rep said.

Donald Trump has said that he is hopeful that Michaels will appear on the show's finale.

Lindsay Lohan's Arrest Warrant Issued

Lindsay Lohan may be heading for jail very soon, after a Los Angeles judge announced that she faces up to 180 days behind bars for violation of her probation.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of Lindsay, who is currently in Cannes and unable to return to the US because someone stole her passport.

She will be arrested upon stepping on American soil. Judge Marsha Revel from the Los Angeles court admitted that she is very upset with the actress for not complying with the terms of her probation.

In the meantime, Lohan issued a statement saying: "I don't see what reason I would go to prison for. I've been more than compliant with everything having to do with the court system."

Things are not looking very good for the Mean Girls star, now that a photo of her standing in a room with what seems to be cocaine nearby, was shown to the judge.

The Road

Talk about tough sledding. At least with Cormac McCarthy's post-
apocalyptic novel, you could stop reading once in a while and take a breather from all of the grim hopelessness. The film adaptation of The Road is a marathon of doom and despair. Viggo Mortensen is affecting as a father trying to protect his son from the elements and roving bands of
cannibals. And sad-eyed Kodi Smit-McPhee is heartbreaking every time he asks his dad if they're ''still the good guys.'' But be warned: If you're looking for any shred of uplift, steer clear. All that said, if you feel like watching it a second time, there's a thoughtful commentary from director John Hillcoat on the EXTRAS, where he cites Mount St. Helens, Katrina, and 9/11 as influences on the film's visual style.

Man Beat Dolly Parton At Look-A-Like Contest

Dolly Parton once lost a Dolly Parton look-a-like contest - to a man.

The country music queen decided to have some fun and thrill her gay fans by showing up to a Dolly Double party in Santa Monica, California and was stunned when she missed out on the top prize.

She says, "I just kinda over-exaggerated everything I am - bigger hair, bigger beauty mark, bigger boobs... and I thought, 'I'm gonna go down to the club...' They were marching across the stage, the look-a-likes, and all these drag queens were at least six-feet tall with their high heels and here comes this little... I guess they thought I was just a little gay midget, or something... Most people think I am taller. I was kinda lost in the shuffle. They didn't take me serious at all."
