Peter and Vandy

This thimble-size Manhattan love story featuring two cute young people messes around with chronology, so it's like (500) Days of Summer, right? Wrong. Stripped (both in script and performance style) of Summer's manufactured veneer of adorability, writer-director Jay DiPietro's little movie Peter and Vandy, based on his own 2002 play, is more naturalistic — and as a result, more believable. Jess Weixler (Teeth) is particularly lovely as Vandy, even when the mild young woman has to endure her beloved's screaming criticism of her sandwich-making methods.
