Mexican pop singer Kalimba will face trial for allegedly raping an underage girl as a second minor on Tuesday claimed she was sexually abused as well, prosecutors said.
According to their statements, both girls were hired as hostesses during Kalimba's December 18 DJ performance at the Buddha Bar club in Chetumal, which is located near Cancun and within the Riviera Maya area. After the performance in which Kalimba was presented as DJ Tripod, he and all his team and staff members, including the girls, were transported to Marlon Hotel.
According to the first girl - a 17-year-old high school student who firstly accused Kalimba of rape and has remained unnamed - she was contacted by the bar's administrator to invite her and the second girl to an after party at the hotel where free drinks would be served.
During the party, the girl states to have been raped by Kalimba after falling asleep at around 3 a.m. local time in the singer's hotel room. The following Monday, on December 20, she filed the complaint at a local public ministry while accompanied by her aunt.
On Tuesday, prosecutor Francisco Alor Quezada said a second girl, also 17 years old, spoke out about the incident, saying she was sexually abused as well, but in a different room. However, this case is still undergoing legal procedures and details have not been disclosed.
Quezada, nonetheless, did not detail whether the girls were drunk or under the influence during the incident.
Kalimba, whose complete name is Kalimba Kadjhali Marichal Ibar, is scheduled to make a court appearance in the upcoming days to make his initial statements regarding the incident. The singer, however, used his Twitter account on Monday to respond to the accusations.
"You should know that I am not proud of everything I do, I make mistakes, I fall and I sin; but I definitely did not do what I am being accused of."
