Katrina is 'Chikni Chameli'

After becoming a rage with item number "Sheila ki jawaani", Katrina Kaif is set to gyrate to "Chikni chameli" in Karan Johar's remake of his father's 1990 critically acclaimed "Agneepath".

"Katrina Kaif is doing a full on item song in AGNEEPATH....its a total swinging number called CHIKNI CHAMELI....we shoot it in a week, " Karan posted on his Twitter page Tuesday.

The British-born actress danced to "Sheila ki jawaani" in Farah Khan's "Tees Maar Khan". But she was also the lead actress of the film. In "Agneepath", Katrina will just be seen in the song "Chikni chameli".

The original Amitabh Bachchan-starrer "Agneepath" featured Archana Puran Singh in item number "Alibaba".

The new "Agneepath" is being directed by debutant Karan Malhotra. Releasing Jan 26 next year, it will see Sanjay Dutt in the villain's role.

Katrina can't escape skin show

She may have evaded the bikini but has to flaunt tank top and shorts for a sequence in the film

The bikini boogey has not really been exorcised out of Katrina Kaif's presence in Dhoom 3. Though she has convinced producer Aditya Chopra that the bikini is not essential for the scene where she was supposed to flaunt one, the issue is far from resolved.

Apparently the core team of Dhoom 3 continued to persuade the actress to take forward the tradition of bikini-clad leading ladies in the flick.

Says a source, "Though Katrina signed on the dotted line for Dhoom 3 only on condition that the bikini sequence be removed, they reluctantly removed the bikini. But the question of what she wears in lieu of the skimpy apparel has only now been resolved."

For the sequence, Katrina would now be wearing shorts and a suitable top.

Says the source, "Aditya Chopra and director Vijay Krishna Acharya were not willing to do away with the sequence where Katrina was to be seen in beach wear.

The sequence was to be shot on an exotic beach. After she said no to wearing a two-piece, there was talk of doing away with that sequence altogether. But it is felt by the entire team that the beach location is lucky for the series.

Since Katrina is required for that sequence, her clothes have been suitable modified to go by her aesthetic comfort and the requirement of the sequence." Interestingly, her role requires her to be more lean and athletic than the present.

Says a source from Istanbul where she is shooting for Ek Tha Tiger, "Katrina has a round-the-clock trainer with her in Istanbul who is currently training her in the rudiments of the physical-type required. She gets into advanced training on her return."

Apparently Katrina's character in Dhoom 3 would be "a mixture of Catwoman and Lara Croft, with a bit of Hema Malini from Seeta Aur Geeta thrown in." Katrina remained unavailable for comment.

Bikini can’t pave way to stardom

Is it a big deal to have a bikini-clad actress in a movie? Interestingly, actress Katrina Kaif, who started her film career with several bikini shots in Boom, has gotten away with a “no bikini clause” in the highly awaited sizzler Dhoom 3.

Even though the earlier franchises of the film had leading ladies Esha Deol and sexy Bipasha Basu sizzle in bikinis. It seems like Ms Kaif would rather not don one to boost her already established career as an A-lister. Does wearing a bikini act as a booster for aspiring actresses and models? Why does the industry thrive on having such scenes in their films?

While few feel it’s a personal choice, many share that they don’t mind doing bikini scenes if the script demands it.

For actress Sonia Mehra, Vinod Mehra’s daughter, who will be seen in Dharma Productions Ek Main Ek Tu starring Imran Khan and Kareena, says bikini shoots make no difference to her. “If a script demands an actor to wear a bikini or kiss, I don’t have a problem with it. If you have the right body, what’s wrong with flaunting it? At the same time, I wouldn’t wear a bikini just for the heck of it. I have grown up in Kenya and have international upbringing. Costumes in the film don’t matter to me, it’s the script and my role that clicks for me. I’m quite confident about carrying off any looks. In Indian culture, every actress who wears a bikini or kisses on the screen becomes a headline. I think that mindset needs to change.”

Sharing a different point of view, actress Mahi Gill, known for her intense and bold roles in Dev D and Gulaal, says that with time industry matures you as an individual. “At the onset, a new budding actress doesn’t know how the industry functions. They do what they are being told. Perhaps, they think it’s a short cut to get an easy break in career, but that’s a myth. There are actresses who have done bikini-clad scenes and are still struggling. For me, I would never do bikini roles, even if it were a part of script. I’m not comfortable with it. I got popular for my bold scenes in Dev D, as I don’t mind an intimate scene. It’s an expression of art for me. I would never say no to scenes where the act is narrating a story and my performance is involved. But bikini scenes are a big no.”

Although the hot ladies of tinsel town like Priyanka Chopra, Malaika Arora Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Minnisha Lamba have worn the bikini and amped up the oomph factor, debut actress Kajal Aggarwal of Singham fame had already said no to any bikini or kissing scenes. And this is not the first time that a new actress has kept such a clause at the very onset of her career,

Asin and Sonakshi Sinha have followed the same strategy and are successful today. But actress Gul Panag begs to differ. She says, “It definitely helps catching the eyeballs. Film business is all about eyeballs, catchy script and scenes. Honestly, it does help you achieve quick visibility.”- Source

Katrina – The Superhit Tadka of Bollywood

The box office scenario of ‘Mere Brother ki Dulhan’ is still ambiguous and it’s very early to speculate anything about Katrina Kaif’s position on the number podium. However, Katrina was and will remain one of the top heroines of the tinsel town, at least for another couple of years.

MBKD shows Katrina as a bidi-smoking damsel who can cause distress. She seems to be undergoing a conscious image change from her porcelain doll avatar in earlier films.

More or less, Katrina has played an arm candy till now. ‘Boom’ is better forgotten; in fact Katrina should be awarded for not denying doing ‘Boom’.
Does Katrina Kaif have the potential to become the number one heroine of Bollywood.

The role of the suave Pooja in ‘Sarkar’ did not have much meat, and people noticed Katrina in the film only because she was a famous model.

‘Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya’ featured Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen primarily, but Katrina was there to dance. Her vacant expression was reminiscent of an actor who has forgotten her cue.

Surprisingly, she started to make her own fan base right after this film. Kaif’s link-ups with Salman fetched her more attention than her entire PR team’s effort.

‘Namstey London’ followed ‘Humko Deewana Kar Gaye’ and Kaif arrived in Bollywood in the true sense.

For the first time, she was in the running for the number one slot after ‘Namastey London’.

Aishwarya Rai had ‘Guru’, while Kareena Kapoor was seen in her career defining role of Geet in ‘Jab We Met’, in the very same year. Katrina was nowhere close to the stature of these two heroines, neither in acting, nor in star quotient.

Then came ‘Apne’, ‘Partner’, ‘Race’, ‘Welcome’ and ‘Singh is Kinng’.

Five back-to-back hits and every producer was outside her gate.

None of these films, except ‘Partner’ had given her the chance to emerge as a thinking actor. She tried her best to look ‘emotional’ in the climax of ‘Partner’, but Rai and Kapoor, had already proved their mettle in thinking roles.

Aishwarya had ‘Devdas’, ‘Chokher Bali’, ‘Bride and Prejudice’, ‘Raincoat’, ‘Sarkar Raj’ and ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ to her credit while Kareena had ‘Asoka’, ‘Chameli’, ‘Dev’, ‘Aitraaz’, ‘Fida’ and ‘Omkara’.

But another competitor had entered the race of number one in 2008 – Priyanka Chopra. She was glamorous, good dancer and as capable as an actor as Rai.

Initially, she did not experiment much with roles and that gave her a chance to consolidate her fan base.

‘Fashion’ and ‘Kaminey’ provided Chopra the long anticipated recognition as a heroine with wide mass appeal, who can act well too. Her position gradually got strengthened. She developed into a typical Bollywood beauty with good acting skills.

The audiences were always waiting for someone as Priyanka, and critics had become bored of reviewing useless beauties. Priyanka satisfied them all.

Kareena kept doing happy go lucky characters, and thus the value of one hit film gained ascendance, because only hit film can make you better than other heroines, who are also portraying the same kind of roles.

Then, the situation became trickier, because Katrina delivered three commercially successful films out of her next seven releases.

‘New York’, ‘Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani’ and ‘Rajneeti’ brought Katrina also to the forefront.

With one Hollywood movie, ‘The Pink Panther’, and several Bollywood flops, Aishwarya seemed more interested in award ceremonies and her family. She was still one of the highest paid heroines but her charm started to fade down considerably post ‘Raavan’.

Kareena tasted success in ’3 Idiots’ and ‘Golmaal’ series, where she had prominent roles.

Kareena already had a good fan base and thus the showcase of refined acting made her a very good challenger for the top spot.

Till the end of 2010, the race for the quintessentially accepted heroine for all was tilted more or less in favour of Kareena Kapoor, despite the success of ‘Rajneeti’, where Katrina donned the cap of a thinking actor for the first time. This political potboiler presented Katrina in a powerful role, and she satisfactorily passed off as a performer.

‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ showed Katrina in an entirely different light. She played an adventure loving girl in ‘ZNMD’, who is specifically clear about the goals of life.

It was not an unlikely role but it came as a pleasant surprise. Katrina was finally trying to evolve as a potential thinking actor.

But, the track was still not clear for a race between Katrina and Kareeena. ’7 Khoon Maaf’ got the rabbit out of the cap, and Priyanka magic swelled over the mass.

A fantastic performance in ’7 Khoon Maaf’ placed her above everyone, as far as the acting was concerned.

Now, Kareena can boast of ‘Bodyguard’, which has received the highest opening of all times, but the real force behind the film is not a hidden fact.

We can narrow down the race of becoming the next lady superstar to three ladies in the shape of Kareena, Priyanka and Katrina, but in reality, the battle is in between just two, Kareena and Priyanka.

Katrina might be riding on a string of successful films but she has not proved her worth as a good actor yet.

Ideally, one superstar should possess brilliant acting skills with devastating looks and courage for experimentation. Remember Hema Malini, Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit.

Katrina’s spotless features can earn her big films, but she will become the super star that the Hindi film audiences are looking for, only when she will come up with rare roles or fine performances to make a role rare.

Kareena Kapoor has ‘Ra.One’, a potential hit, in kitty but she also has not shown the guts to experiment with every film. Basically, she is conscious about her position at the box office, which will eventually stop her from taking the leap of faith towards superstardom.

Therefore, Priyanka Chopra remains as the real scion of the reigning queen’s post, however, her ascendance to the throne will depend a lot on the comparative performances of her films against Kareena’s and Katrina’s.

Katrina-Ali Zafar, the new BFF of B-town

Katrina Kaif's recent bonding with her ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ co-star Ali Zafar is the new talk of the town. The two stars, who got to know each other on the sets of YRF’s film, have got on like a house on fire.

The duo has been spotted hanging out together when they are not shooting. Not sometime back, reports suggested that Zafar gave some guitar-lessons to the lady, so that she couls strum a guitar well during her live music performances.

However, the source also makes it a point to add that Katrina still holds a special space for her ex Salman Khan. Recently, when Ali mentioned that he was quite scared of Mr Khan, Katrina was quick to jump to Salman’s defence adding that the latter is a chilled-out as person.

In fact, Katrina added that though Salman is known to be this rough-tough guy, he is actually a sweetheart. Source

Sheila becomes Munni for Rs 2.5 crore

In the Tamil version of hit item song, Munni Badnaam Hui, the film's makers are reportedly signing on Katrina Kaif. Not just that, a cool Rs 2.5 crore has been set aside for just the song

Last year's biggest Bollywood competition was between two popular songs, Sheila Ki Jawani and Munni Badnaam Hui, but in a strange turn of events, Sheila, or rather Katrina Kaif is set to become Munni.

The makers of the under-production Osthi, the Tamil version of Dabangg, plagued by fears of a possible comparison between the new Munni Badnaam Hui with the original, have decided to go for a new version of the song.

According to sources, they are signing Katrina Kaif for it and have reportedly set aside Rs 2.5 crore for the song.

While Farah Khan choreographed the original song, Saroj Khan will work on the new version. A source said, "Saroj has just completed a great number for Prabhu Deva's Rowdy Rathore. When Osthi's director S Darani learnt about it, he decided on Saroj."

According to the source, Osthi's makers decided to tweak the original song because of copyright reasons. T Series, which holds the rights to the original song, has refused to grant permission to reproduce the song.

The source also added that Malaika Arora Khan had made it known that she was not available for item songs outside her home banner, and talks were doing the rounds that Bipasha Basu might be roped in. However, they have now altered their plans.

Sonu Sood, who will be reprising his role in Dabangg as Salman Khan's brother, is apparently the reason why Kaif will be signed on. The source said, "The producers were keen on Bipasha. But Sonu is pushing for Katrina. He has already informed her.

Katrina always finds it hard to say no to her friends." Sood has been friends with Kaif, ever since he worked with the actress in Singh is Kinng. While in the original song, Sood has a limited screen time with 'Munni', in the new version, he will reportedly dance with the item girl from start to finish.

When asked about his friendship with Kaif and her casting, Sood said, "At the moment, all I can say is Katrina is a dear friend. Beyond that I'm not in a position to comment.

And yes, this time I'll have a lot more dancing to do." He added, "I am looking forward to that since my dancing partner is someone extraordinarily beautiful."

The new version of the film will star Tamil film star Silambarasan Rajendar, also known as Simbhu, in the lead.

Katrina Kaif's winning formula

Looks like Katrina Kaif has already learnt a lot from her experiences and has found a winning formula to find in peace.

She believes that the best way to go about is by not getting overly emotional . And that is one of the reasons she doesn't believe in taking pictures and documenting anything in life. "I don't click pictures. People carry camera with them while travelling, take pictures, keep them as memories, but I don't.

I don't even have a camera. I don't believe there is any point in holding on to too many things in life. In any case, I always have those memories etched in my head and heart and living with those thoughts everyday," she smiles. And Kat states a reason to stay detached. "With every film we form a small little world for a period of time. Everybody is close and then one fine day everything is over. That can throw you off. So you have to learn to take things in your stride and not get too emotional about people or situations." Source : indiatimes.com

Ali Zafar turns guitar teacher for Katrina Kaif

People are raving about Katrina Kaif's rockstar image in her upcoming film "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan", but not just in films, the Bollywood actress is trying to master the art of strumming even in real life and Pakistani actor-musician Ali Zafar is helping her achieve her goal.

Ali is Katrina's co-star in "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan", which is a love triangle and also stars Imran Khan and during the shoot of the film, he gave Katrina some guitar lessons.

"It was great working with Ali. The nice thing is that Ali is also a musician and since I'm learning how to play the guitar and I'm very interested in it, I'm trying to learn from whoever I can.

"Farhan (Akhtar) taught me some stuff during 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' and Ali has also taught me some stuff during this film. He is a good teacher and we are trying to get into a form where we can play a live song together in one of the promotional events for this film very soon, " Katrina told reporters here at the music launch of the film.

Imran, who was present at the event, lauded the 27-year-old actress' guitar skills.

"Katrina is very good with the guitar. I was quite amazed when I saw her playing, " said the actor.

Salman, Katrina team up for 'Bodyguard' item song

Katrina Kaif will do the item song "Aaya re aaya bodyguard" in "Bodyguard" and Salman Khan, who plays the title role in the movie, will match steps with her.

As the song is about Salman's character, so his presence is said to be a must in it. Bodyguard producer Atul Agnihotri confirmed that Salman will be part of the song. Ganesh Acharya will teach him the steps.

"Salman likes to do his own thing in the dance numbers. Everyone knows in 'Munni badnam' he didn't follow Farah Khan's instructions. Katrina will be rigorously rehearsing her steps for 'Aaya re aaya bodyguard'. She wants it to be as perfect as 'Sheila ki jawaani'.

"Salman's improvisations are bound to distract her. But there is not much she can do about it.Because as Salman pointed out the song is about about him, so he has to be part of it," said a source.

Earlier, Salman had made a special appearance in the song "Wallah Re Wallah" in the movie "Tees Maar Khan", which had Katrina and Akshay Kumar as lead pair.

"Bodyguard" is a romantic action film starring Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor. Directed by Siddique, the film is a remake of the director's 2010 Malayalam film of the same name.

Katrina Kaif to perform item dance in 'Bodyguard'?

Katrina Kaif has reportedly agreed to perform an opening sequence item dance in Salman Khan's Bodyguard.

The actress is using the title credits of James Bond films for inspiration, according to The Times of India.

"When Salman asked Katrina to be a part of Bodyguard, she didn't even blink before saying 'yes'," said a source. "But on hearing Salman's grand plans for the item number, Katrina got a little unsure.

"Salman's brief was simple, an item song for the opening credits that would put 'Sheila' to shame. Considering Kareena [Kapoor] was the leading lady of the film, Katrina feared that this might not go down too well with her.

"However, when Kat told Salman about her cause of worry, he said that he'll take care of Bebo [Kareena]."

In February, Kapoor dismissed rumours that she will not act with other female Bollywood stars, but admitted that she has to have "the best role" in a film.

Kaif wants the dance to be raunchier than her famed sequence 'Sheila Ki Jawani' in Tees Maar Khan, added the source.

A spokesperson for Bodyguard confirmed that the star will be looking at Octopussy and Goldfinger for ideas.

Himesh Reshammiya and Ganesh Acharya will be composing and choreographing the sequence respectively .Katrina Pictures Gallery

Katrina denies grand birthday bash rumours

MUMBAI: Katrina Kaif, who will turn 27 on July 16, has not been celebrating her birthday since the past three years and has denied throwing any birthday party this time as well.

After all, the last birthday bash only resulted in some bitter memories for the actress, when her ex-beau Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan got into a never-ending rift.

When Kat was asked about her plans of throwing a grand bash and inviting all those who has made a difference to her life, she said, "No, I am not planning on throwing any lavish b'day party, unlike what the rumours say."

When asked if she'll spend her birthday with her family in London or Mumbai the actress said, "I have not planned anything yet. My movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is releasing on 15th July so most probably I will be busy with the promotional activities."

However, a source close to the actress revealed that the gorgeous actress is planning to do some charity work on her birthday.

“Kats mother is involved in charity and Kat too is inclined towards it. She wants to give back to the society which has given her so much love and what better day than a birthday to do that,” said the source.

Katrina voted FHM's sexiest woman

Actress Katrina Kaif tops the Sexiest Women 2011 list of men's lifestyle magazine FHM, edging out Deepika Padukone who won the title last year. Katrina had won the title in 2008 and 2009 too.

The FHM 100 Sexiest Women list is based on online and SMS voting and saw a whopping 35,000 responses this year.

"We'd love to say 2011 was a close contest, only Sheila made sure it was far from. A feat that becomes even more significant because no woman in the world across all 28 editions of FHM has ever won the Sexiest Woman in the World title three times in the last 17 years that we've been making the list. Her average is higher than Sachin Tendulkar's and she replaces Deepika Padukone who won the crown in 2010," said Kabeer Sharma, executive editor FHM India, in a statement.

Katrina seems to be the toast of the season -- she was the only Bollywood actress to feature on the India Today's Elite Power list and is also the most Google-searched Indian celebrity

Katrina's Barbie Doll To Hit The Market Soon

Katrina Kaif look-alike Barbie Dolls will hit the Indian stores on March 20. And the actress has already drawn up a list of people whom she's going to give her first batch of Barbies to.

Topping the list is her niece Maya and Farah Khan's triplets Anya, Czar and Diva.

"The first doll will go to my sister's two-and-a-half year-old daughter Maya because she is obsessed with Barbie. I'm going to London for a couple of days for work. I'll give her the doll then," said Katrina.

Katrina also plans to give the dolls to her directors Zoya Khan and Farah Khan. While three Barbie dolls will go to Farah's kids,of whom Czar is a huge fan of the actress, Katrina wants Zoya also (Zindagi Na Mile Dobaara) to line her shelves with her dolls.

"There are other tots on the give-away list too. Kabir Khan's daughter Sairah," says Katrina.

"She's just three but sings to Sheila ki Jawani with all the words and does the steps too. That's where my real compliment comes from," the actress added.

Katrina elaborated, "I will give my doll personally to all my friends in the film industry. Ali Zafar (Mere Brother Ki Dulhan's director) asked me where would he put that doll? But I snapped office or home everyone should have one doll of mine!" she laughed.

The launch of the Katrina Kaif Barbie dolls at stores will be followed by a fashion show and launch of a video introducing the doll. While the initial doll will feature as Katrina the movie star, there are plans to launch her look-alike Barbies in various other avatars too.

Katrina says, "It's a very special moment for me. It's the first time that an Asian actress has been chosen to feature in the Barbie range. My sisters are more proud of this achievement than of any of my films, which they don't have much knowledge of. But who hasn't heard of a Barbie doll?"
